The Challenge
Communities across SD were given the opportunity to apply for one time funding through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) child care community planning and implementation grants. These funds were made available through the American Rescue Plan Act dollars, which were pandemic relief dollars given to every state. In SD, the Department of Social Services gave approximately 4 million dollars to GOED to give out to communities to encourage community driven action and solutions. During the planning phase most communities felt it necessary to survey their community and collect data to understand the true root of their local child care crisis. Before applying for the implementation grant or moving forward, with any action, the communities needed to gather data and plan for solutions.
The Solution
KVG partnered with ten South Dakota communities. We provided tailored support to each community, ranging from expert guidance on grant applications to collaborative brainstorming sessions that generated innovative child care solutions. Our efforts resulted in five communities receiving implementation grants to address their unique needs. Explore our portfolio below to see more examples of how KVG is helping South Dakota communities expand access to quality child care.
